Business Rules To Live By PDF Print E-mail
Here are 22 business rules to live by.  These are key in how GIS Marketing does business.
  1. It's got to be a BIG idea that you, your team and your customers can "get" in seconds.
  2. Strive to create 10x -- 100x in value for any price you charge. Your rewards are always proportionate to the value you provide.
  3. Provide a 'Reason Why' customers should do business with you and pay you a premium.
  4. You get to make the rules for your business. Don't let industry norms dictate how you'll work or who you'll work with.
  5. Find partners and team members who are strong where you are weak and appreciate being paid on results.
  6. Your reputation always counts. Honor your obligations and agreements.
  7. Your partners and employees actions are their true core -- not what they tell you.
  8. Keep asking the right questions to come up with innovative solutions. "How?", "What?", "Where?", "Who Else?" & "Why?" open up possibilities.
  9. You'll never have a perfect business and you'll never be totally "done". Deal with it.
  10. Focus most of your time on your core strengths and less time working in areas you suck at.
  11. Make it easier for customers to buy by taking away the risk of the transaction by guaranteeing what you do in a meaningful way.
  12. Always go back to your existing customers with exceptional offers and reasons they should give you more money. It's 5x less expensive to sell to happy customers than go find new ones.
  13. The marketplace and competitors are always trying to beat you down to a commodity. Don't let that happen.
  14. Develop and build your business's personality that stands out. People want to buy from people.
  15. Create your own category so you can be first in the consumer's mind.
  16. Go the opposite direction competitors are headed -- you'll stand out.
  17. Mastermind and collaborate with other smart entrepreneurs if they have futures that are even bigger than their present.
  18. Celebrate your victories. It's too easy to simply move on to your next goal without acknowledging and appreciating the 'win'.
  19. Make your business AND doing business with you FUN!
  20. Do the unexpected before and after anything goes wrong so customers are compelled to 'share your story'.
  21. Get a life! Business and making money are important but your life is the sum total of your experiences. Go out and create experiences & adventures so you can come back renewed and inspired for your next big thing.
  22. Give back! Commit to taking a % of your company's sales and make a difference. If this becomes a habit like brushing your teeth pretty soon the big checks with lots of zeros won't be scary to write.

Tips for Successful Article Marketing PDF Print E-mail

One of the backbone pieces of internet marketing has been publishing articles.  And even today, article marketing is a very important part of an internet marketing campaign.  It does not matter if you write the articles yourself or you outsource your articles for someone else to write them for you.

I myself get bored really quickly writing my own articles so I normally outsource them unless it is something I am really passionate about.  But no matter, after you have the article you need to start publishing it to places like EZineArticles, or Article Dashboard to get them indexed.  There are literally thousands of different article directories out there.  A few like Article Dashboard and EZineArticles stand out above the rest but the more you get your message out there the better in the long run.

But here is a problem with submitting that same article to all of these directories.  It creates what is called the duplicate content penalty.  In actuality it is not a penalty at all.  You do not get a bad mark for submitting a duplicate article.  All that happens is the articles that are considered "duplicate" do not count in the calculation for link juice.  But it does not hurt you at all.

And, if the article directories were read frequently (and a few like Ezine Articles, etc are) then you would be getting traffic from people searching for the article in the directory.  But the fact is that most people use a search engine like Google to search and then Google points them to the article.

So, if you are using an article submitter service, is it sending the same article to all of the directories?  If so, that may not be help you very much.  So what is an article marketer to do?

Well, there is now an easy solution to this problem.  What if the service that is going to submit your articles would spin the article before each new submission?  That would increase the uniqueness and each article would then carry some weight.  Also, what if the same service also would limit the submissions to the sites that the article actually applies, instead of just sending it blindly to every directory out there.

I can hear your thoughts already, not another spinner that creates unreadable articles.  Right, I agree!  What I am talking about here is a service called Unique Article Wizard.  With Unique Article Wizard you are the spinner.  Here is how it works....

You paste in your original article and press next.  Then UAW (Unique Article Wizard) will show you the first paragraph and have you spin it 2 times by rewording the whole paragraph.  Then on to the next paragraph and so on until you have basically created 3 different articles.  Now when it comes to submit time, it will randomly pick one of the 3 paragraphs for paragraph 1, then do the same for paragraph 2, and the next, until it creates a new article with random paragraphs.  Since the paragraphs are complete you get a complete article that actually makes sense.

So now you get an article submission service that submits unique articles to the article directories that in turn give you more internet cred.

Spinning a new paragraph is much easier than to use a spinner tool and put in curly brackets the synonyms.  But even if spinning the paragraphs is too much work for you.  Here is another tool that can be used in conjunction with UAW.  It is called ContentBoss.  ContentBoss is another spinning program, and it does all of the work for you.  And, it is not too bad considering it is completely automatic.  I have put articles with broken English into it and got out a coherent article.  It is by no means perfect but it can do the not so fun work of spinning for you.

Here is how you use it with UAW.  Paste in your article to UAW and go to the step where you are being asked to spin the first paragraph.  Select and copy the text from the first paragraph, open a new window or tab and go to ContentBoss.  Paste in the paragraph you have on the clipboard and click the wrangle button.  You will have now a spun version of that paragraph.  Now, go back to UAW and paste the spun content into the 2nd box.  Go back to ContentBoss and click wrangle again, copy and paste the new wrangled text into box #3.  Now go on to paragraph 2 and repeat until you have completed all of the paragraphs.

One note on using this method.  Sometimes ContentBoss will wrangle one paragraph into 2 or more.  This is very confusing to UAW.  So if content boss does create more than one paragraph, simply remove the lines making one big paragraph.

so hopefully you have found this tip helpful.  If you would like to see more tips let us know and we will add them.

Be sure to Check out both Unique Article Wizard and ContentBoss.

Now is the time to build PDF Print E-mail

At this time with the economy everyone is trying to slow down and cut back.  But if your in business for yourself, now is the time to build not cut back.  Whatever you can do during this slow period will benefit you greatly when the better times arrive.

But you say, but Mike, I really cannot spend any more money right now.  And, you are probably right, so now is the time to get creative, find new ways of doing the old things that are important for your business, new ways that can save you money.  Look at new and creative ways to market yourself and most of all get closer with your existing customers.

You have already invested in your current customers so be sure to keep them loyal to your business.  There are many ways to do this but the most important thing is to hold on to your current customers.  You can even leverage them to bring in new business from new customers.  Provide them an incentive program for recommending you.

If you are not marketing on the Internet, this is the perfect time to make the switch.  Marketing on the Internet is not very expensive but can provide a much larger return on investment than advertising in the yellow pages and other advertising platforms.  If you have not tried Internet Marketing before, this is the perfect time to start, get in now to start ranking for your market so when times are good and your competitors are starting to reaslize that the internet is the place to be, you will already be there, leading the pack forcing them into following in your footsteps and only get the scraps that are left.

What About The Down Economy? PDF Print E-mail

Unless you have been living on a deserted island with Tom Hanks and talking to coconuts you know that the economy is in bad shape right now.  I am sure your business is feeling the strain too.  So what do you do about the down economy and your business?

Well, now is the perfect time to build.  And I am not talking about spending lots of money either.  Some of the greatest wealth in our country was built by those businesses that were taking action during the great depression, taking action to be ready when it was all over.

So what can you do now.  Well, now is the time to re-evaluate your marketing strategy.  How much are you spending on advertising in the yellow pages, on ads in the newpaper, etc.  If you are like most business owners you probably are not even sure exactly which advertising is working for you and which is not.  If you are in the majority that do not know, then my first suggestion is that you start asking how people heard about you and keep a talley.

After you do your evaluation you need to determine if you can make any adjustments to your current advertising plan to cut some costs.  There was a time when it was a big deal to have a nice ad in the yellow pages.  And some still consider it almost like a prestige thing to have a color ad.  But, bottom line, the yellow pages are dead.  The internet has killed the yellow pages.  So, you can spend money on the prestige of having an ad in the yellow pages, or put that money into something that will put money in your pocket. After all that is why you are in business right, to put money into your pocket.

So, what about the down economy.  Rethink, outside of the box, while things are slow.  Take advantage of low cost or even free techniques to get more business now.  Build customer relationship and loyalty by implementing an autoresponder with monthly specials, newletters and more.  When the economy turns around, and it will, you will be much further ahead of your competition and kicking some business bootie.
